Study Background

This study is investigating the effects of tofu, a soya product as a replacement for red/processed meats.

It has been well established that eating a diet rich in red meat promotes the growth of gut microbes that drive inflammation. Plant protein does not have these associations, and it is often accompanied by fibre ingestion, which favours the growth of health-promoting gut microbes. Replacing meat with plant protein offers the prospect of improving health by improving the gut microbiome.
