Answering the Call for a Trusted Research Partner

In 2011, a team of visionary researchers at APC Microbiome Ireland saw an urgent gap in the clinical trials market. Nutraceutical and dietary supplement companies faced complex new regulations for European health claims. But they had no partner to conduct rigorous trials in healthy populations.

Atlantia Clinical Trials emerged to meet this need, with Andrea Doolan—now Atlantia’s CEO—there from the beginning. Bringing years of industry experience in clinical trials, Andrea saw the demand firsthand. “Companies were approaching the university to do their clinical trials, but that wasn’t the primary remit of the institute,” she recalls.

Atlantia was built on a foundation of expertise and passion, ready to redefine what a niche CRO could achieve.

From Humble Beginnings to Respected Leader

Growing Atlantia from the ground up required grit and adaptability. From the outset, Atlantia took a refreshing approach to clinical research. We committed to transparency, unlike traditional CROs. This approach soon won over clients looking for a reliable partner in clinical trials.

Expanding Horizons with Precision & Integrity

Today, Atlantia’s journey of growth and specialization continues. We expanded our Irish operation to America, opening a clinic in Chicago in 2019. Together, the clinics support multicenter trials and serve clients with American and European in-market research.

Beyond nutraceuticals, Atlantia expanded into medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. This move broadens our capabilities to meet diverse sponsor needs.

From Humble Beginnings

Atlantia’s journey began in the labs of University College Cork’s APC Microbiome Institute. In 2011, the European Food Safety Authority introduced new legislation requiring clinical research to substantiate any food product making a health claim. Many companies found themselves unsure of how to navigate this new landscape.

Our founding team, working at the APC Microbiome Institute at the time, saw businesses grappling with a new regulatory environment and began offering expert guidance. After successfully assisting with several trials, our intrepid founders recognized the ongoing need to support companies in understanding these evolving regulations, and Atlantia Clinical Trials was born.

What began with a small team of three has since grown into a global operation of 85 experts located across our offices and labs in Cork and Chicago. Our team specializes in protocol writing, trial design, patient recruitment and clinical delivery.
